How to Create a Watchlist

Watchlists in Tandem Trader make it easy to keep track of stocks you're interested in trading. In this guide, we'll explain how to create and edit Watchlists.

What Is a Watchlist?

A Watchlist is a curated display of tickers you can use to monitor prices, volume, and other real-time data. You can use them to:

• Focus on stocks with a particular setup (e.g. breakout candidates or upcoming earnings plays)
• Monitor selected stocks within a sector or grouping (e.g. small-caps or high volatility stocks) 
• Track the performance of stocks in your portfolio or that you're actively trading
• Compare stocks side-by-side on key technical or fundamental metrics

You can have an unlimited number of Watchlists in Tandem Trader, making them flexible for a variety of different use cases.

How to Create a New Watchlist

Step 1: Open the Watchlist Editor

You can create a Watchlist from any Tandem Trader page. Just click on the + icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, then select Watchlist.

Step 2: Title Your Watchlist

Enter a title for your new watchlist, then click Save.

Step 3: Add Tickers

In the Search Tickers box, enter the ticker you want add. Click on the company when it appears in search results to add it to your Watchlist.

Repeat to add more tickers to your Watchlist. Each Watchlist can contain an unlimited number of tickers.

Step 4: Save Your Watchlist

Click Save Watchlist to complete your Watchlist.

How to Access Your Watchlists

You can access your saved Watchlists from the Tandem Trader Dashboard or the My Watch List page.

In the Dashboard, watchlists are displayed on the right-hand side of the screen below the Top Stocks and Upcoming Events panels. (Note that when viewing Watchlists in the Dashboard, they only display the ticker symbol, current price, and % change.)

To access the My Watch List page, select Watch Lists > My Watch List in the left-hand navigation panel. 

In either view, use the drop-down menu to switch between your saved Watchlists. Clicking on a ticker symbol within a Watchlist opens a quick-navigation menu so you can take notes, set alerts, or access news, filings, and charts.

How to Edit a Watchlist

You can edit an existing Watchlist from the My Watch List page.

1. Navigate to Watch Lists > My Watch List
2. Select the Watchlist you want to edit from the drop-down menu
3. Click Edit Watchlist to open the Watchlist editor.

Add tickers by searching for them just like when creating a new Watchlist. Remove tickers by clicking the X icon shown next to the ticker symbol underneath the search bar.

Watchlist Data Columns

The My Watch List page enables you to view detailed price, performance, technical, and fundamental data about all of the tickers in your watchlists.

To adjust what data is displayed, choose a Watchlist and click Edit Columns. Then select which data fields you want to display. All currently active data fields are displayed on the right-hand side of the menu under Selected Columns. Click Save to confirm your selection and return to your Watchlist.

You can rearrange the order of data columns by clicking and dragging them. Clicking on any column header will sort your Watchlist according to that data column.
